Are your Hormones changing? This #1tip MAY help you

ABC2So last year I had an unexpected moment, my monthly periods changed, and not for the better!

My doctor asked me “which of the 7 menopausal dwarfs was I experiencing,

Itchy, Bitchy, Sweaty, Sleepy, Bloated, Forgetful or Psycho?”

Well this sounds like a fun journey I thought before answering … “Maybe Bitchy, Sleepy and Forgetful” with an embarrassed grin “and occasionally Psycho”.

With an all to knowing look on her face, my doctor leaned forward and said, “welcome to the first stages of menopause!”

On one hand I thought GREAT, I now have an excuse for my mood swings, but on the other hand I knew that if I did nothing, nothing was going to change!

My bitchy, sleepy, forgetful and occasionally psycho self went and had a blood test to discover exactly what my hormones were up to.

Was I in for a surprise.

My progesterone, testosterone and iron levels were LOW.   My cortisol levels were HIGH.  No wonder I was great at the 7 menopausal dwarfs!

In a nutshell, my hormones were a mess and turned my life up side down with heavy periods, moody moments and exhaustion.

What was a girl to do?

Plan A.

Put a sign around my neck – Menopause in Progress – Please do not make eye contact.MenopauseInAction

Maybe not the best idea, I would forget to put my sign on each day!

Plan B.

I am a believer that our body is capable of ageing in a natural way given the right environment, nutrition, exercise and mindset.

To my frustration, my tired body and cranky mindset were not on the same page!

I was not a great fan of HRT.  I had read about the side effects and could not wrap my head around the idea of taking one-size fits all pills.

I had read quite a few years ago about bio identical hormone treatment by Suzanne Somers and decided to investigate this form of treatment further.

I visited a GP who specialized in women’s health and Bio Identical Hormone Treatment.

I can almost hear you asking, “What is bio identical hormone treatment?”

This is how Havard Health explains:

‘Bio identical hormone therapy is often called "natural hormone therapy" because bio identical hormones act in the body just like the hormones we produce’.

In my words it is hormones that are created by a compound chemist to suit your current and individual needs.  In my case, I was prescribed Progesterone, Testosterone and DHEA to assist with my cortisol levels.

Bio Identical Hormone Treatment made a lot of sense to me and I happily took my medications and did start to feel better.  My periods were no longer as heavy and I certainly started to feel human again.

But my blood tests were still not fantastic!

I thought, “something is missing”.  I had a gut instinct what it was BUT I just wasn’t able to get a hold of it.

My big problem was how I handled stress!

I am Personality Type A.  I am sure you know the type…typea b1

  • I really am not a control freak BUT can I please show you how to do that the right way?
  • I have 1000 things on my to-do list and MUST complete each of those things (to the best of my ability).
  • YES I can do that, and that, and that, and that - All today because I am an achiever!!!

Personality Type A is not a gift when trying to regulate your hormones. I discovered when your hormones are no longer producing normally, your Adrenal Glands save the day and help create Progesterone (the happy sex hormone).

But NOT if you are stressed!

Get this….

If you are stressed, and your cortisol levels high, your Adrenal Glands need to decide:

Do I help the STRESS hormones (cortisol) or the SEX hormone (progesterone).

Guess which one wins?  Yes Cortisol.

For me I think this created low progesterone (and heavy periods every 14 days).

My frustration and a desperate need to feel better led me on a journey of discovery and this is the #1 tip I wanted to share with you.

The research indicates that Meditation was as successful in reducing menopausal symptoms as HRT or Bio Identical Hormone Treatment.

Wow!  “This is a BIG statement” I thought.

My answer was MEDITATION

But I found it difficult to meditate.  I had too much to do!

I wanted to meditate BUT I always found an excuse and then I found Binaural Beats Meditation.

This type of meditation suits me with the beautiful music that relaxes the brain, body and soul.  It really is music to my ears!

If you are struggling with menopause and would like to try meditation (but find it hard to relax), go online and try this free meditation.

Click here for the meditation I started with.

For my menopausal girlfriends remember we are still hot, it just comes in the form of flushes now J

I am a work in progress girls and welcome your feedback.  Together, as a tribe of intelligent women I would love us to share our stories, solutions and natural therapies that may help each other ease the symptoms of menopause
